Hotel Le Campagnol

Hotel Le Campagnol attracts superb reviews from its guests, and is the perfect choice for anyone looking for an authentic Italian welcome with great food and superb hospitality.

Hotel features:

Managed by Franco and Daniela, nothing is too much trouble and they’ll even whizz you to one of the nearby ski lifts in the morning so you don’t have to walk (or, of course, you can make use of the free, on-demand Ski 2 minibus service which operates 7 days a week between 0800 hours and midnight!).

The food at Hotel Le Campagnol is excellent, with many guests raving about the traditional cuisine cooked by Franco – authentically Italian and with choices for children, the attention to detail means that this really is a gem of a 2* hotel.

In a quiet position, the hotel has traditional and simply furnished bedrooms that are all en-suite and there are some family/inter-connecting rooms available.

The bar is cosy and bright, where you can sit in the sunshine and enjoy a steaming cup of coffee or a glass of Aosta valley wine while you look out of the large panoramic windows.

View from the Hotel

The hotel is situated an easy walk to our ski deposit (where all ski equipment is issues and stored overnight) and the bottom of the main ski lift, you can walk along the lit cross-country ski track which runs through the woods to the end of the main street.

The walk between your hotel and the deposit is done in your comfortable shoes, which are then stored in our ski deposit during the day. There is a free, on-demand Ski 2 minibus service operating between 0800 and midnight, 7 days a week for those who would prefer not to walk between the hotel and our ski deposit.

We found this hotel suited us perfectly as a family with 2 kids (8 and 9). Whilst it’s not smart or flashy the unpretentious, friendly welcome was ideal for a relaxing stay. Our rooms on the top floor were fairly small with traditional décor but clean and cosy. The real highlight for us was the evening meals – 5 courses a night! Traditional Italian food and all delicious. If the kids were being fussy about a particular dish it was rapidly swapped for some tomato pasta or alternative dish without a hesitation. As others have commented, Wi-Fi didn’t seem to work in our rooms on the top floor but worked well in the bar/lounge area. The hotel is a little way out from the gondola and we enjoyed the quiet location and views down the valley. The hosts dropped us in town each morning without any hassle and we jumped in a Ski 2 bus back again at the end of the day. We’d definitely return another time.

We had a lovely time staying here – it was exactly what we expected for the price we paid. As a family of 4 (kids ages 4 and 2) the interconnecting room was perfect, and my parents’ room was ideal too. The evening meal was always delicious, the continental breakfast was good, although if a cooked breakfast had been on offer if would have been much enjoyed!! Staff all really friendly and helpful.
    Nice quiet location.

Staying here was a real pleasure. The highlights were the evening meal, welcoming staff, the bar area, the good house wine and the pleasant walk through the woods (c15 minutes) to the boot room/lifts. The room was fine (for the price/class) albeit functional with a modern clean bathroom with shower. The WiFi was playing up when we were there and alas would have to be a black mark for those up us without data as part of their mobile package. Breakfast was fine but when skiing I love something cooked (even if just scrambled eggs and a bit of bacon) which was not on offer. (albeit there were hard boiled eggs which weren’t my bag). Definitely would return.

We stayed for our second visit at Le Campagnol for 6 nights at the beginning of March 2016. This time, we travelled as a couple, without the large extended family party we visited with in 2015. Once again, we were made most welcome by Franco and Daniela who went out of their way to look after us. . This clean hotel, with good food and a welcoming bar/lounge is very good value for money when staying in Champoluc.

I have been to five different hotels with Ski2 in Champoluc and all have their individual characteristics.

However Hotel Le Campagnol takes some beating for such an underestimated low level two star hotel.

Daniele is a modest, relaxed, welcoming host, who speaks English and her husband Franco produced some special extraordinary cuisine far beyond the two star rating. He doesn’t speak English but I was able to compliment his cooking skills in a Google Italian translation, which brought a smile to his face. The two girl assistants spoke English and were very attentive and friendly. Second servings were always offered for the skier with a big appetite.
Traditional continental breakfast with cereals, ham and cheese and scrambled egg. My room was on the top floor, which was clean and comfortable, offering a beautiful view down the mountainous valley but couldn’t get a wi-fi signal, only in the body of the hotel.

The comments book in the hotel reflected how well the previous guests felt about the hotel with glowing passages. One such comment said “We really feel like home and your service and food is outstanding.”
I always walked to Champoluc and treated this as my loosening up before the days skiing. You can walk on the road or go the more scenic route through a snow covered wooded area. No need to carry the skis as there is a ski depot at the lift.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this family run and friendly hotel.

Daniella and Franco are incredibly welcoming and hospitable. Staying at Le Campagnol is more like staying at a friend’s house rather than a hotel – they go over and above the expected level of service to make sure you are looked after. Highlight of staying here are the dinners and wine list which are exceptional. We’ll definitely be back!

From the start of the holiday research process to the transfer back to Milan airport at the end of the holiday, Ski2 and Roger Walker Holidays could not be faulted. They were flexible, friendly, approachable and nothing was too much trouble! Our original holiday was booked for December and due to the lack of snow, we moved our holiday to Easter. The request was met at short notice with no fuss, we were thrilled. The Hotel Campagnol is lovely. It is a 2 star rated, but my children thought it was a 4 star. The room we had was a family room, no 14. It was a well proportioned double (or twin) bed room with wardrobe, bedside lamps and table and tv. Off the main bedroom was a smaller room with a bunk bed, with doors leading out onto a balcony, showing amazing views of the Alps and Champoluc valley. Another door led off the main bedroom to the en suite bathroom with bath. The bedrooms are spotless, pine clan and do feel a bit dark, but pull back the net curtains and see the views and it brightens up. Daniella and Franco were excellent hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Daniella spoke English and Franco French. They were always happy and welcoming. Franco is an excellent chef and the evening meals were 4 course delicious mouth watering experiences. The hotel has wifi, which is great in the mornings but slows down in the evenings when everyone is on it. The living space is lovely, with great views over the Champoluc valley and a bar. We drank as much as we wanted with wine at dinner and soft drinks for the children and our weekly bar bill was just over €100 which was a lot cheaper than France.
The hotel Campagnol is situated between Champoluc and Frachey. It is a 10 minute walk to the Ski2 office in Champoluc and gondola, or 10 minute walk to Frachey where there is a fenicucular train to take you up onto the slopes. We only walked if we wanted. All other times, we were given a lift by Daniella and Franco in their minibus or bus Ski2 who collected us from Frachey and took us back to the ski deposit at the Ski2 office. That was another great thing about the holiday, we didn’t have to carry our skis around! The boots, skis and poles were stored in the centre of Champoluc by the chair lift. No need to lug heavy skis and walk in uncomfortable boots! If we wanted to ski from Frachey, the Ski2 bus would take us there and pick us up. Kenn in the ‘ski fitting department’ along with all members of the team, were friendly and helpful, fitting boots and skis and generally just helping you with you boots at the start and end of the day. They are great with you children too! There is a ‘Penguin Club’.
We had a group family lesson which was 2 hours for 5 days and had a great time. The instructor Susie was brilliant, encouraging my daughter who was lacking confidence loads. She was able to differentiate for all of us. Susie took me down the ‘Goat’ ski run on my last day. It was the best skiing I have every done. Controlled skiing, crisp snow and sunshine. I could not recommend this type of holiday enough. We loved every moment. A great experience. We will definitely recommend Roger Walker Travel and Ski2. The flexibility and helpfulness experienced throughout the holiday was excellent and reassuring. Thank you to all from the Hine Family!

We stayed at the le campagnol last week (half term) on a family ski trip which we booked with ski2 and loved the friendly owners and staff who could not have been more attentive. The food was exceptional and the rooms comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. This is not a 2 star hotel!! We were a group of 7 and took our 2 year old grandson and nothing was too much trouble, he was able to have early delicious teas and a separate, connected bedroom to himself – a great bonus for his parents. (Room 7). The wine list had a good selection of excellent wines at reasonable prices.
Thank you Daniella and Franco we cant wait to return next year.

We stayed as a family over the February half-term and enjoyed a lovely, relaxing week. No query, even from the children, was too difficult and we were made to feel very comfortable. The attitude of all the staff, including the inestimable Mignon (cat), was fantastic. The open sitting areas meant that the children could meet others staying at the same time and made good friends, as did we. If you don’t mind missing a few mod cons and prefer good value, good food and a friendly place, you will enjoy this place. Will definitely come back again.

We stayed at the Hotel Le Campagnol over New Year with a large group of family including small children and friends. We were very well looked after and had a great time in a very friendly and family orientated hotel.

The rooms are warm, spacious and clean perhaps lacking in 5 star luxuries but great for those with smaller children. However, the extensive use of wood panelling in some rooms led them to be rather dark. One couple from our party was troubled by a large number of flies in their bedroom.

The food was most well received by all and served with friendly efficiency. New Year’s Eve was a great evening, with good food and drink and a great time was had by all.

The public rooms were warm and functional and the youngsters were able to enjoy themselves sensibly without their parents becoming too concerned!

We had a good week. I would recommend this hotel for a family orientated holiday.

We stayed here over New Year with a large group of family and friends. We were very well looked after and had a great time in a very friendly and family orientated hotel. The rooms are warm, spacious and clean perhaps lacking in 5 star luxuries but great for those with smaller children. The corridors and stairs perhaps lack carpets which gives a rather hostel feel but the food and friendliness of the staff make up for the lack of luxuries. It is also good value. The hotel is out of town but between Ski2 and the hotel we were well supplied with bus rides to and from the lifts and the Penguin Club.
Children’s meals were available at an earlier time and Franco tried very hard to accommodate our different dietary requirements. New Year’s Eve meal and celebrations were a highlight of the week.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants pleasant rooms, good food and a warm welcome.

Five of us stayed at Le Campagnol and were all extremely pleased. The food was exceptional, the rooms clean and comfortable, but the most endearing thing was the staff, they were fantastic! What more can you ask?

  13. Peter on 19th March 2014

The Campagnol and it’s staff are a great find… The staff could not do enough to accommodate us on our stay. The rooms were warm, clean and comfortable and the bathroom was spotless!

Food was excellent, varied and plentiful.

The Hotel was a little further out of the town than we anticipated, but could easily be walked in 10-15 mins, but the Ski2 team were always available (day and night) to taxi us around if needed.

All in all a great find and perfect for a Skiing Break…

Stayed here for 3 nights in March 2014. The hotel was excellent, very clean and comfortable, with friendly helpful staff. I would say it is way more than a 2* hotel. The food was very good, varied and plentiful, they were always happy to come round offering second helpings!
Our room was spacious, warm and very clean, with a large shared veranda that overlooked the mountains.
There is free wifi in all areas of the hotel. We never used the shuttle service, we preferred to take the 10/15 minute walk through the scenic, well lit forest trail every day.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable, no frills stay and would stay here again.

  15. Jo & Dylan on 26th February 2014

Owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating, nothing seems too much trouble. The hotel is just out of town which is not an issue as Franco or Ski2 provided us lifts in or out of town or we took the scenic stroll through the woods. Food was lovely and lots of it! Rooms were clean and our double with adjoining room for the kids worked a treat. Would definitely recommend as a good 2* option and happily book again.

  16. Sarah & Matt on 25th February 2014

A great find! Very friendly and helpful staff, spotlessly clean and comfy rooms, really delicious and excellent quality food – far above 2* standard. Great with our kids and nothing was too much trouble. Not far from the village – easily walkable with 3 kids, and Franco was very happy to drive us in the mornings. Would have preferred duvets, but rooms very homely with everything you need. Very highly recommended.

  17. Paul Harrison on 9th May 2013

An unexpected gem of a hotel! Staff very friendly and natural, rooms well equipped and clean. Food excellent – home cooked, local, plenty of variety. The walk from the lift (which almost put us off booking this hotel) was in fact not a problem – the owner happily drove us to the main lift every morning, and a pleasant 10 min stroll back along a woodland trail in the evening.

  18. Sandra & Peter on 26th March 2013

Excellent food, really friendly staff, very clean rooms, quiet & relaxing after a hard day skiing. Highly recommended.
