Champoluc and the Monterosa area
Getting to know the valley
Whether you’re a first-time skier or need an adrenalin-filled challenge, the pistes in Monterosa never fail to disappoint. With over 200km of crisp clean runs, and plenty of tough off-piste routes, skiers and snowboarders get the chance to push out of their comfort zone and learn new skills amongst breathtaking scenery.
There are good facilities for children throughout the Monterosa area – reflective of the Italian love of family. Ski 2 clients can take advantage of the Ski 2 Penguin Club, knowing their youngsters are safe and entertained for the whole day, with an option of skiing for older toddlers.
The lift structure connecting Champoluc, Alagna and Gressoney is excellent and two lifts give the best access to Champoluc and the other resorts. You can take the six-person gondola that rises up to the beginners’ slopes and where our ski school starts. For more able skiers, there is chance to get the bus transfer to the Funicular railway in Frachey which gives faster access to Gressoney and Alagna.

As a beginner, you’ll get the chance to build up to some fantastic runs and Champoluc is a great resort to start. There is a dedicated nursery slope near the main gondola that is enclosed so you can learn without the pressure and interruption of other skiers.
Our exclusive Ski School is staffed by accredited instructors that know this vast landscape inside out. They’re used to working with skiers of all levels so will gently guide you through at your own pace, moving through different terrains to build confidence and knowledge of the area.
Wide-open runs with glorious views make this area one of the best for intermediate skiers. There are a variety of suitable cruising red runs, including the Pistone run, that at the end of the day takes you through the nursery slopes of the Crest, into the village and stops right outside our ski hire centre.
There are some gentle off-piste routes to navigate, and you can take the journey through Gressoney and Alagna over a full day. You also shouldn’t miss ‘Goat Gully’ – a concave piste that is steeper than average at the start, getting easier as you go head down, watched by the statue of an Ibex mountain goat that gave this unique piste its name.
Expert skiers are spoiled for choice, with the chance to cover lots of ground, stay on-piste with a variety of challenging runs or take advantage of the extensive off-piste skiing.
Surrounded by woodland, Champoluc has some great tree-lined routes that take you to Gressoney, the home of Italian off-piste skiing and Alagna famed for its tough runs and demanding off-piste terrain.
For the adrenaline junkies, the ultimate experience comes in the form of a Heli Skiing trip giving you access to high-octane descents on unspoiled, powder fresh snow.
No drag lifts and free-riding across all three valleys makes Monterosa a paradise for snowboarders. Whilst there isn’t currently a snowboard park as such in the Montersosa ski area, the region will appeal to those looking to enjoy the quiet, open pistes and the easily accessible off-piste valleys with their natural jumps and bumps amidst stunning scenery.

Making it easy
Most of our accommodation is close to the bottom of the piste and is, at most, a 9 minute walk to the main lift. Whilst it’s not ski-in ski-out, we’ve made it as easy as possible for you with free use of our purpose-built ski deposit, even if you bring your own equipment. It’s situated at the base of the main lift and you can store all your equipment (yes, even your boots) overnight. You won’t need to carry anything and all you’ll need to get to and from your hotel is a comfy pair of shoes.
If you have any questions about the piste please get in touch.
New for 2018 / 2019 …………
In addition to the ‘orientation guiding session’ that we have always offered in Champoluc, we are now pleased to be able to provide a full day’s ski guiding for our guests.
Take advantage of the opportunity to join one of our team on a trip around the Monterosa ski area, exploring the ski areas of Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna and discovering pistes that you might otherwise miss. Relax and enjoy the stunning scenery, safe in the knowledge that your guide will get you back to Champoluc before the lifts close. Take coffee in one of the numerous mountain cafes and enjoy lunch en-route at a piste-side restaurant (drinks and meals payable locally using cash or your Ski 2 lunch voucher at selected restaurants).
Normally departing from the top of the funicular at Frachey to allow speedier access across the Monterosa ski area, this service is available to those who ski to a good parallel level.
Please ask a member of our Resort Team on arrival for details on arrival in Champoluc.
